Summary 0000020: Mozilla produces alert screen and exits when accessing \'security\' features
Description Mozilla 1.2.1 from CSW.
SPARC, Solaris 8 02/02, with lots of patches including
the ones pointed out in the notes posted to blastwave
for mozilla.

All I need to do to reproduce this is to go into preferences, select Privacy and Security, and click on \"Validation\".

When I do this, I get a popup window with this alert:

Could not initialize the browser\'s security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your browser\'s profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommened that you exit the browser and fix the problem. If you continue to use this browser session, you might see incorrect browser behaviour when accessing security features.

After I click on this window\'s OK button, the whole browser usually exits. I can not find any core file, so I do not know if it crashed or exited under control.

Is it just me having this problem?

I would appreciate your help in tracking down exactly what is missing. I have found on *some* machines, that the \"security component\" does not work. However, on other machines, it works fine. I have not been able to determine the difference between the machines so far.

It is unfortunate that the mozilla output on it is so poor. I have filed a bug on the mozilla site,

http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=185848 [^]

Unfortunately, as well as lousy debug output, they are also lousy about replying to bug reports. I havent heard anything back from them in 3 weeks.

I\'m happy to say that a co-worker found out the problem.

it turns out, for some unfathomable reason, the mozilla people decided to make the sparc binaries use an EXTRA set of libraries, whereas the x86 do not.

I built my package based on the x86 filelist, so the sparc pacakge did not get the extra files, libfreebl_XXX

I just uploaded new mozilla pacakges, 1.2.1,REV=2003.01.15

Once they show up on the mirror sites, please confirm the new package works for you, then I can close this bug.
