0004878: fontconfig => rrdtool slowness under Apache

Description

There are many discussions around the web about rrdtool running slowly
in various situations

In my case, I found "rrdtool graph" runs slowly (4-5 seconds per graph,
even on a very powerful machine) when generating the graphs for Ganglia
web pages. This is on a fresh install of the CSW packages of Apache2,
PHP5, rrdtool and fontconfig.

In my case, I found that

chown nobody /var/opt/csw/cache/fontconfig
chown nobody /var/opt/csw/cache/fontconfig/*

immediately resolved the issue.

On the machine in question:

Apache process runs as nobody
nobody has shell /usr/bin/false
nobody's home = /

Can anyone suggest where the blame lies? Is there any other information
from my environment that may be helpful in fixing this?

Versions:
CSWfconfig 2.6.0,REV=2009.04.24
CSWrrdtool 1.4.5,REV=2011.03.21
CSWapache2 2.2.21,REV=2011.10.05

Platform:
Solaris 10 x86
Sun x4150, 8 core, 32GB

Additional Information

I've marked the severity as `major' because it makes other applications (e.g. Ganglia web reports) extremely slow
