Hi all,

Can anybody please help? I'm trying to install the CSWmysql5 + relevant dependencies on my sunfire v240 Solaris 10 box using the recently installed pkgutil. The install seemed to go o.k up until the mysql_install_db is launched where the following message is displayed:

FATAL ERROR: Could not find errmsg.sys.

I didn't notice this at first but the mysql service will only stay in a maintenance mode so I looked more closely, reinstalled & checked for the presence of errmsg.sys and it does exist. I can't for the life of me think where to go next with this, googling hasn't proved very helpful. I would appreciate some direction.

With kind regards & thanks for your time

Jon

Okay, I'm not allowed to downvote your own answer yet, but I would if I could :-) In a nutshell: using Solaris 10 MySQL is a Very Bad Idea. It's v4.0, which has absolutely critical issues like no handling of charsets. Just don't use it. Seriously. Don't.

Back to the original question: Yup, there was an issue in the script run by MySQL for an initial installation. I've upgraded the package, it should be fixed now. You can try it. Do note that you could have run the mysql_install_db manually, it would have worked. The way it was called in the postinstall script broke at some point when the upstream script changed, and I didn't catch it as I don't often do initial installs.

Sorted my own problem:

Resorted to the Sun Solaris 10 out of the box implementation of Mysql. Works fine

Thanks to all of the above who kindly helped me. I had researched and found similar information pertaining to Solaris 10 & MySQL 4. However, more fundamental and pressing problems befell the Sunfire V240 runing the aforementioned, as a result it has been withdrawn from service & retired

But again, thanks for all input received.

With kind regards

Jon
