0003630: upgrade fakeroot
I'm running stagepkg and when reviewing the prototype file I noticed that user:group assignments are not being properly set. While inspecting the stagepkg script I noticed a mention of some fakeroot bug on x86 so the user:group are being set to root:bin for all files, this packages has a ton of files that need to different user:group ownership.

I can use the prototype generated on sparc but given that our fakeroot package is really old I though upgrading would be nice.

you seem to think that "upgrading" will fix what was inherantly an upstream "bug".

If you'd like to test out any new version of fakeroot under x86 (if there even IS one), and verify that the newer version works, I will be happy to repackage a newer version.
You dont need root to compile and test it out.

However, I greatly doubt that the bug is fixed, since the issue appears to be specific to "solaris + x86".

so, I'm closing this bug summarily for now.
i'll reiterate that if you'd like to confirm that there is a new version (which you didnt say you'd even checked yourself, you just said our current package is "really old"), and that it fixes the problem, I'll be happy to repackage.

I grabbed the latest version of fakeroot, version 1.12.2, from the Debian
repository and was able to successfully compile it and this solaris x86
bugs appears to have been resolved. It doesn't compile right out of the
box because of the Solaris acl implementation, but this is easily
surpassed by removing sys/acl.h from AC_CHECK_HEADERS in configure.ac
and regenerating configure with autoconf.
